At least 50 people have been killed after four tornadoes erupted in the southeastern US state of Kentucky, its governor told reporters Saturday morning as several storms devastated much of the country.

Governor Andy Bashir said the state's strongest storm, up to 200 miles away, had destroyed several Kentucky counties.

That night, a tornado ripped through a large Amazon warehouse in Illinois, trapping about 100 workers, according to local media.

"I fear more than 50 have died; maybe somewhere between 70 and 100, it's catastrophic," Bashir said, adding that it was the worst hurricane in Kentucky history.

The governor added that in one incident, the roof of a candle factory collapsed, causing "mass killings" in the town of Mayfield.

Photos and videos shared on social media from Mayfield show buildings being torn apart by the storm, with bent metal, trees and broken bricks scattered on the streets, leaving only the remains of houses. Have gone

Pictures of tornadoes from American news channels showed a black cylinder spread out on the ground, illuminated by intermittent lightning strikes.

"I declared a state of emergency just before midnight," Bashir said.

He added that several search and rescue personnel have been deployed to save lives as power outages continue in the area.

The hurricane came at a time when the hurricane devastated several US states.

Earlier in the week, hundreds of workers were working to rescue employees at Amazon's warehouse - one-third of which had been reduced to rubble - on orders for night shift shifts before the Christmas holidays.

The Collinsville Emergency Management Agency called it a "mass murder" with "numerous articles trapped in the Amazon warehouse."

A hurricane warning was in effect in the area at the time.

Shared footage from Amazon's warehouse in Edwardsville, USA, on US news channels and social media shows a large part of the facility's roof burst, while a wall collapsed into the building, leaving debris. The place was scattered.

"There are confirmed deaths," Edwards Will Police said in a statement.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said: "My prayers are with the people of Edwards Will tonight.

"Both our Illinois State Police and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency are working with local authorities and I will continue to monitor the situation," he added.

In a statement to local media, Amazon spokesman Richard Rocha said: "The safety and well-being of our employees and partners is our top priority right now. We are reviewing the situation and will share additional information when it becomes available." Will do. "

In Arkansas, one person was killed and 20 others were trapped after a hurricane at Monet Munawar Nursing Home, US media reported.

Craighead County official Marvin Day told local news channels that rescue workers had successfully evacuated those trapped inside the building and that the structure was "substantially destroyed."

At least two people were killed in storm-related incidents in Tennessee, an emergency management official told local media.

The hurricane tore through four states - Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee - and issued warnings for Illinois.

Scientists warn that climate change is intensifying hurricanes and increasing their frequency, increasing the risk for areas where severe weather events are already common.
